Michael Barton of Mountain Goat Ski Guides got some great turns yesterday, October 6th, from around 12,000 feet... 50cm of fresh snow, and a great start to the winter...

Check out the helmet cam video of his run on his blog, http://silvertonbackcountry.blogspot.com.

Makes you wanna wax up the boards and get to hiking, doesn't it?

Where's Winston?

What is the latest word on the whereabouts of Winston Churchill? I can't believe his dramatic exit into the wilderness is the end of the story...a soul forever lost, nothing more and nothing less. Such drama seems out of character for someone who was so guarded and complex.

From the Desert...Otto

EDITOR'S NOTE (July 8, 2009): Winston's body was found on July 2, 2009 in Hinsdale County. Our condolences go out to all of his family and friends. Some additional information from the coroner and his friends can be found HERE. RIP, Winston...

ISS Transits May 8-12

The International Space Station will be visible from Silverton several times during the second week of May. Rumor has it that the new solar array makes the ISS bright enough to be seen during the daytime but I have not been able to verify this with my own eyeballs yet.

May 8 The ISS will rise in the NW at 5:44 AM and will reach peak elevation in the SW at 5:46.

May 10 The ISS will rise in the WNW at 5:01 AM
and will reach peak elevation in the SW at 5:03.

(same day) The ISS will rise in the SW at 9:27 PM and will pass nearly overhead at 9:29 PM heading SE.

Million Dollar Highway Makes "Highways to Hell" List

Found on MSN's homepage on Sunday, March 29th: Highways to Hell. Turns out our little highway is number two on the list!

ISS Transits March 31 and April 2

The International Space Station will pass directly over Silverton the evening of March 31. With its new solar array it is very bright and might be visible through the clouds. The ISS will rise in the NW headed SE about 8:48 PM and should be overhead about one minute later. The weather forecast for April 2 is more favorable. The ISS will rise in the NW about 8:05 PM headed SE and will reach maximum elevation at 8:07 PM.

Clear Skies...

Tony
