Silverton Students Featured in Bay Area News Media During Trip

It took a while for the students to warm up to each other, but once they did, there was a flurry of e-mail exchanges and an enthusiastic group "thank you" by the end of sixth period at Oakland International High School.

 

The Oakland public school, which opened last August, hosted a group of middle school students from the mountain town of Silverton, Colo. — population 500 — Tuesday afternoon as part of Silverton's expeditionary learning program that has been focusing on immigration all semester.
 

They are here on a weeklong trip to listen firsthand to stories of immigrants, and the Oakland school seemed a fitting place to do just that.
